What is TTF?

TTF (TrueType Font) is an outline font format Apple developed in the late 1980s and licensed to Microsoft, making it the standard scalable font on both Mac and Windows for decades. TrueType describes glyphs with quadratic Bézier curves and carries hinting instructions for sharp rendering at small sizes. It is now a subset of the OpenType format.

TTF files are stored uncompressed. Nothing is lost to encoding, though they can take more disk space than compressed formats.

TTF was developed by Apple and is an open standard.
