What is AIFF?

AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) is Apple's uncompressed audio format, introduced in 1988 and based on Electronic Arts' IFF container. Like WAV it stores raw PCM samples at full fidelity, and it is a common master and interchange format in macOS audio software such as Logic and GarageBand.

AIFF files are stored uncompressed. Nothing is lost to encoding, though they can take more disk space than compressed formats. Files can carry ID3 / IFF chunks.

AIFF was developed by Apple.
