Convert OGG Files on Mac

OGG (Ogg Vorbis Audio) is an audio format using the .ogg and .oga extensions. Consul converts OGG files to 11 other formats, and 25 formats to OGG. Rename a file's extension in Finder and Consul handles the conversion automatically.

What is OGG?

OGG audio usually means Ogg Vorbis: lossy audio in the Ogg container, released royalty-free by Xiph.Org in 2000 as the free alternative to MP3. It remains common for game audio and Wikipedia media, though Opus has largely superseded it for new applications.

OGG uses lossy compression: encoders permanently discard some detail to keep files small. Converting to a lossless format later preserves the file exactly as it is now, but that discarded detail doesn't come back. Files can carry Vorbis comments.

OGG was developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation and is an open standard.
