Convert M2TS Files on Mac

What is M2TS?
M2TS is the MPEG-2 transport stream container used on Blu-ray discs and by AVCHD camcorders, where clips carry the .m2ts or .mts extension. It wraps H.264 or MPEG-2 video with Dolby or DTS audio into a stream built for reliable playback and broadcast rather than for editing or general file sharing.
M2TS was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association.

macOS recognizes AVCHD transport streams and Quick Look can preview them, but QuickTime Player doesn't reliably play every M2TS file; many need VLC, iMovie import, or a converter.
