Convert RAF Files on Mac

RAF (Fujifilm Raw Image) is an image format using the .raf extension. Consul converts RAF files to 29 other formats. Rename a file's extension in Finder and Consul handles the conversion automatically.

What is RAF?

RAF is Fujifilm's raw image format, produced by its X-series and GFX cameras. A RAF file stores the unprocessed data straight off the sensor along with an embedded JPEG preview, giving photographers maximum latitude to adjust exposure, white balance and color in post-processing at the cost of large file sizes.

RAF uses lossless compression, so files shrink without losing any information and decode back to the original data exactly. Files can carry EXIF/MakerNote metadata.

RAF was developed by Fujifilm.

Opening RAF files on a Mac

Quick Look previews RAF files. Select one in Finder and press Space. Preview opens RAF files. For a one-off conversion, Preview can also export RAF to JPEG, PNG, TIFF and PDF.

macOS decodes raw photos through its camera-specific raw engine, so images from very new camera models may not display until Apple ships support in a macOS update.
