What is EPUB?
EPUB is the open e-book standard maintained by the W3C (originally the International Digital Publishing Forum). An EPUB file is a zip package of XHTML, CSS and images with reflowable text, and it is the format most e-readers and publishers use apart from Amazon's Kindle. On the Mac, EPUB files open in Apple Books.
EPUB files can carry Dublin Core (OPF) metadata.
EPUB was developed by W3C (formerly IDPF) and is an open standard.
Opening EPUB files on a Mac
Opens in Apple Books by default. macOS opens EPUB files in Apple Books but has no built-in Quick Look preview for them, and the Preview app does not open EPUB.
