What is DNG?

DNG (Digital Negative) is Adobe's openly documented raw format, designed in 2004 as a universal, archival container for camera raw data. Leica and Ricoh/Pentax cameras use it as their native raw format, and iPhone ProRAW photos are DNG files too.

DNG supports both lossy and lossless compression, so file size and fidelity depend on how each file was encoded. Files can carry EXIF/XMP metadata.

DNG was developed by Adobe and is an open standard.
