Convert RST Files on Mac
RST (reStructuredText) is a document format using the .rst extension. Consul converts RST files to 29 other formats, and 40 formats to RST. Rename a file's extension in Finder and Consul handles the conversion automatically.
What is RST?
reStructuredText (RST) is a plain-text markup language created for the Python Docutils project in the early 2000s. It is the default markup for Python documentation and the Sphinx documentation generator, using an indentation- and punctuation-based syntax for headings, lists, tables and code.
RST files are stored uncompressed. Nothing is lost to encoding, though they can take more disk space than compressed formats.
RST was developed by the Docutils project (David Goodger) and is an open standard.
Opening RST files on a Mac
A plain-text file you can open in any text editor, though macOS assigns no default app to the .rst extension. macOS does not recognize the .rst extension as a known text type, so Finder shows it as a generic document and Quick Look does not render a text preview.
Consul supports 69 conversions for RST
Consul is the easiest way to convert RST files on your Mac, or to turn other files into RST. Rename file.rst to change its extension, and Consul converts it automatically.
