What is XLSX?

XLSX is the default spreadsheet format Microsoft Excel has used since Excel 2007. It's an Office Open XML file (a ZIP archive of XML parts) that stores worksheets, formulas, charts, and formatting. It is by far the most common format for exchanging spreadsheets.

XLSX uses lossless compression, so files shrink without losing any information and decode back to the original data exactly.

XLSX was developed by Microsoft.
