Convert MOBI Files on Mac
MOBI (Mobipocket E-Book) is an e-book format using the .mobi and .prc extensions. Consul converts MOBI files to 30 other formats. Rename a file's extension in Finder and Consul handles the conversion automatically.
What is MOBI?
MOBI is the e-book format Amazon inherited when it acquired Mobipocket, and it was the basis of the earliest Kindle books. Built on PalmDOC compression and a subset of HTML, it stores reflowable text and basic formatting. Amazon retired MOBI for new Kindle content in 2022 in favor of EPUB, but many older library and store files remain in this format.
MOBI was developed by Amazon (originally Mobipocket).
Opening MOBI files on a Mac
macOS has no built-in way to open MOBI files. Consul converts them to a format your Mac can open.
macOS does not recognize the MOBI type; no built-in app opens it, and Amazon's separate Kindle app is needed to read one.
