Convert RW2 Files on Mac
RW2 (Panasonic Raw Image) is an image format using the .rw2 extension. Consul converts RW2 files to 29 other formats. Rename a file's extension in Finder and Consul handles the conversion automatically.
What is RW2?
RW2 is Panasonic's raw image format, used by its Lumix cameras. An RW2 file holds the unprocessed sensor data plus an embedded JPEG preview, giving photographers full control over white balance, exposure and noise reduction in post-processing at the cost of larger files.
RW2 uses lossless compression, so files shrink without losing any information and decode back to the original data exactly. Files can carry EXIF/MakerNote metadata.
RW2 was developed by Panasonic.
Opening RW2 files on a Mac
Quick Look previews RW2 files. Select one in Finder and press Space. Preview opens RW2 files. For a one-off conversion, Preview can also export RW2 to JPEG, PNG, TIFF and PDF.
macOS decodes raw photos through its camera-specific raw engine, so images from very new camera models may not display until Apple ships support in a macOS update.
