Convert SubViewer Files on Mac
SubViewer (SubViewer / YouTube Captions) is a subtitle format using the .sbv extension. Consul converts SubViewer files to 5 other formats, and 18 formats to SubViewer. Rename a file's extension in Finder and Consul handles the conversion automatically.
What is SubViewer?
SBV (SubViewer) is the plain-text caption format YouTube produces when you download automatic or uploaded captions. Each entry is a start and end timecode, with a period before milliseconds and no sequence numbers, followed by the caption text. It carries no styling and is essentially a simpler cousin of SubRip.
SubViewer files are stored uncompressed. Nothing is lost to encoding, though they can take more disk space than compressed formats.
Opening SubViewer files on a Mac
SBV files are plain UTF-8 text, but macOS assigns no default app to the .sbv extension and Quick Look won't preview it as text; you can still open one in TextEdit or any text editor.
