What is CAF?
CAF (Core Audio Format) is Apple's flexible audio container, introduced with Mac OS X Tiger in 2005. Unlike WAV or AIFF it has no 4 GB size limit and can hold many codecs, from uncompressed PCM to AAC, Apple Lossless, or Opus, which makes it common in macOS and iOS audio development and for long recordings.
CAF supports both lossy and lossless compression, so file size and fidelity depend on how each file was encoded.
CAF was developed by Apple.
